Glitter Techniques Class

Janelle recently debuted a class at The Art Studio on how to use embossing powder (that goes way beyond sprinkle and heat) and my goodness, it is it a wonderful class.

Now, she’s back with a class on glitter and believe me, you don’t want to miss this. Glitter is a deceptively simple product. It looks like it would be easy to work with (and it can be) but there’s a learning curve when you want to do more than shake, shake, shake it.

So why drive yourself crazy trying to find all the right techniques, the right answers and the right ways to do an array of shimmery glitter techniques when you can take this uber satisfying class by The Queen of All Things Shimmery?

In this class, you’ll learn how to create sparkling art pictures that can be used on cards, and as project embellishments, and the glitter won’t brush off because it’s all neatly captured behind the acetate.

We’ll start with single-color application, move on to creating shadows and glittering highlights, and then top it off with a bonus class that will use one of the blended images on a fun collage background.

Course materials include step-by-step instructions with lots of pictures in a PDF format that you can download all at once and work at your leisure as well as a complete supply list, a resource list and teacher contact information.

What You’ll Learn In This Class:
  • Single- and multi-color glitter application
  • How to create highlights and shadows with glitter
  • Smooth glue application
  • Product definitions and usage tip
  • Collage ideas

Head on over to The Art Studio @ SNR to sign up for Janelle's class!

Vintage Cottage

Vintage Cottage

by Mandee Gillen AKA Scrappin Madge

First I would like to thank Angela Holt Designs. It has been a honor to be on Angela's DT and I would also like to thank PK Glitz for being our sponsor this month! It has been great working with their product.

I have had this Paper Machae' house in my stash for awhile now. I always had in mind what I wanted to do with it but didn't have the right stuff to make it happen. That is when I received P K Glitz Glitter! Then my wheels started spinning! I knew right away that this is what I needed to make this Vintage Cottage come to life.

I really wanted this to be something that I could display in my sitting room. I am thrilled at how this plain brown paper mache' house turned into this Victorian Vintage Cottage.

  • Take your paper machae' house and cover the base with paper (I used Graphic 45 Ladies Diary throughout this project)
  • Use the fantastic Wonder Film to adhere the paper. Take an exacto knife and cut out the windows and the door.
  • Cut 350 1/4" circles out of a dark pattern piece of paper. The first layer of circles I used Wonder film to apply after that I used Mod Podge to give it a shinny look and layered each circle creating the shingle look.
  • Cut out another 150 1/4" circles for the front decorative shingles in the peaks of the roof tops. Repeat the same steps as the roof with the Wonder Film and then continue to layer with Mod Podge.
  • Cut a thin strip if Wonder Film and apply at the base of the house and wrap house with lace trim.
  • Take some fun decorative beading and wrap windows with beading.
  • I wanted some of my brown paper mache' base to show through so I used a SMALL amount of Mod Podge and sprinkled some Pink Glitz Glitter along the sides and front of the house.
  • Take your brush of Mod Podge and gently go over the roof and the house and then sprinkle with White Glitz Glitter. Brush off any extra.
  • Cut Wonder Film and apply to the chimney, using the spoon from PK Glitz sprinkle white glitter onto the Wonder Film, shake off excess glitter and use the brush to brush away the excess.

Using decorative ribbon, flowers and elements I decorated my house. I even cut out a set of women and placed them through the door so you can see them on the inside.

Here is a couple of close ups of the trim around the roof and the shingles on the house

You could make this house unique to your style. It was so much fun making this Cottage.

Some of the products I used in this project: PK Glitz Glitter Glitz, PK Glitz Wonder Film, PK Glitz Anti Static Brush, and PK Glitz Application Spoon.

Altered Shoe Turned Pin Cushion

by Rhonda Ratliff

Now... I am a child of the 80's!!... Hair bands, parachute pants and granny boots. We LOVED those granny boots. I HAD To have a pair.

Yep, I still have them... And they have been used for several costume parties...lol!!! BUT, I knew I wasn't ever going to wear them again so I took one and I wanted to make it into a pin cushion... Cause I have a LOVE for stick pins and I wanted something to display them on.

So using the PK Glitz "Violet"... I went to town glittering it up... I first, worked in sections and with Mod Podge, covered the shoe and then sprinkled the area with the glitter... Once it dried I went back over it "sealing" it with Mod Podge again... Then using the "Life Abloom" Printable Journal by Tsunami Rose Designs, I picked a couple pages I liked most... And the colors of this printable went AWESOME with the PK Glitz "Violet",... and Mod Podged the pieces randomly where I wanted it.

Then I added laces, flatbacks pearls, a cameo, charms, Siemens, mulberry flowers and leaves, a resin rose, a buckle with a flatback pearl. The cushion is just made of Polyfill and some scrap material I had... I just cover the Polyfill with the material, arranged it inside the shoe till I liked It and hot glued it in! I also added some bling from Angela Holts own on-line store she carries in her Bling Splendor Line!!! Lastly I spritzed the flowers with a Stardust finishing spray from Amuse Studio. It took me a few weeks to get this done, but I LOVE IT and I have my pins from Pinque Peacock's "Sweet Neapolitan" Collection displayed!!!

This color, "VIOLET" is available in the Color Wheel Spring II  or in the Glitter Glitz .05 oz Jars...
