Organizing Your Glitter and Embossing Powders

I love to organize! I could spend hours at places like the Container Store and IKEA. Their is just something about all of the cute and sometime, just clever, storage solutions that are available.

I also love to have my craft supplies out in the open and easily accessible. With my rather large supply of P K Glitz Glitters, Embossing Powders, and Embossing Glitters, I knew I needed a solution that would work for me and allow me to see the colors I had on hand at a glance.

I purchased the plastic containers at Target last year and they worked perfectly for all of my P K Glitz jars, except for one thing….

1… I could only see the colors if I looked through the bottom of the container and the containers were drab, even with their pretty blue handles. Okay, that was two things but who is counting, right?

I loved the idea of having all of the colors of each product in separate containers, but I needed a solution to the color problem.

I grabbed my 1/4 inch Sticky Tape and began placing a small strip on each of the jar lids.

2I then peeled off the Sticky Tape cover and used the Glitter or embossing powder color on each of the corresponding jar lids.

Now I can see at a glance the colors I have on hand.

The problem of the dull containers was an easy fix. I cut some pretty patterned paper into strips that would fit just below the handles. I used my Sticky Tape to attach it to the outside of the container and I used a strip of 1/4 inch Sticky Tape along the top and bottom of each paper strip and added a coordinating glitter color. I used my Silhouette to cut out the product names for each tub to easily identify what was in each one. 6I have used this system for at least 6 months now and it is the perfect solution for me.

You can find our complete line of Sticky Tape and Empty Jars in the P K Glitz Store.

How do you store jars or bottles of color?

  2. I keep my glitters and paints in drawers and my embossing powders in a photo box right under my work area.

  6. Thanks Janelle. I try to keep it organized so I can find things when I need it.

And yes Tammy, it is the new cabinet on my blog. I want to figure out a way to color code the drawers so I can find the colors more easily, but I want to keep the vinatage look of the piece. Any suggestions?

  7. What a handy idea with the glitter jars! I do the same with my craft paints, i store them in a drawer so i see them only from above - i put a blob of paint on the lid so that i can see the colours at a glance too!

  8. This is a great idea. I store my jars and bottles in a trolley. It is 5 feet tall, and 3.5 x 3.5 feet all around. Has 7 drawers all on sliders that I can pull out and access my stuff and I put my glitter and embossing powder in there. I have a handy husband that makes storage units. However I'll use your idea to mark the tops.
